Your Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account may cover Bia. Here's how to get reimbursed in three simple steps.
1
Get a Letter of Medical Necessity
A quick $15 text-based consultation through Flex, takes just a few minutes and may also be reimbursable through your HSA/FSA.
2
Subscribe to Bia
Use your regular credit card, not your HSA/FSA card.
3
Submit for reimbursement
Send your Bia receipt and letter to your HSA/FSA administrator.
Takes about 10 minutes total.
Step 1 of 3
Get your Letter of Medical Necessity
You'll need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a licensed provider. Bia maintains a storefront on Flex's platform to make this quick and affordable; we do not earn a commission from your consultation.
Tip: Flex's condition list may not include specific phobias like emetophobia by name. Anxiety-related conditions are commonly assessed under "General Anxiety," but answer the provider's questions honestly and they will confirm the category that fits.
Visit Flex and start a consultation. It's a short text-based Q&A with a licensed provider.
When prompted about your condition, answer honestly. Anxiety-related conditions are commonly assessed under "General Anxiety," which your provider will confirm.
Pay the $15 consultation fee with any card.
Receive your Letter of Medical Necessity by email. Save it, as you will need it in step 3.
Your receipt will be sent to your email by Stripe, our payment processor. Look for a message with the subject "Receipt from Bia" and save it to attach in step 3.
Your receipt will come from Apple. Check your email for a message with the subject "Your receipt from Apple". You can also find it by opening the App Store, tapping your profile photo, tapping Subscriptions, and selecting Bia.
Your receipt will come from Google Play. Check your email for a confirmation from Google. You can also find it by opening the Google Play Store app, tapping your profile photo, tapping Payments and subscriptions, then Budget and history, and locating your Bia purchase.
Your receipt will come from PayPal. Check your email for a payment confirmation. You can also find it by logging into PayPal, going to Activity, and locating your Bia payment.
Step 3 of 3
Submit for reimbursement
Log in to your HSA or FSA administrator's portal, or check your employee benefits app, and submit a reimbursement claim.
Log into your HSA/FSA portal. Common providers include Optum, HealthEquity, WEX, Fidelity, and Paychex.
Start a new reimbursement claim and select the mental health or medical expense category.
Attach both your Bia receipt and your Letter of Medical Necessity from Flex.
Submit your claim. Reimbursement typically arrives within 5 to 10 business days.
If your portal asks for an expense description, enter: "Digital mental health program, specific phobia and anxiety (guided exposure practice)"
All steps complete
You're all set!
Your reimbursement claim is submitted. Most claims are approved within 5 to 10 business days and deposited back to your account.
If your claim is denied, contact your HSA/FSA administrator for the specific reason. We are happy to help with additional documentation. Reach us at support@biajourney.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
HSA/FSA cards require a merchant to be pre-approved as a medical expense provider. Bia is working toward that certification. In the meantime, a letter-based reimbursement route is a common alternative that many people use for apps, devices, and services. Whether an expense qualifies is determined by your provider's letter and your specific plan under IRS rules.
Flex's current condition list doesn't include specific phobia subtypes like emetophobia, social phobia, or contamination OCD by name. These conditions are related to anxiety, so they are commonly assessed under a broader category such as "General Anxiety." The licensed provider you speak with reviews your situation and determines the category that fits and whether a letter is appropriate.
Possibly. The Flex consultation is a medical telehealth service and may qualify as a reimbursable medical expense. Save the Flex receipt and submit it separately with your claim. Approval depends on your specific HSA/FSA plan.
Ask your administrator for the specific denial reason. The most common issue is a missing or unclear letter. If you need help appealing or getting additional documentation from Bia, reach out to support@biajourney.com and we'll do everything we can to help.
Most administrators process claims within 5 to 10 business days. Some may take up to 2 to 3 weeks depending on their review process. You will typically receive the reimbursement as a direct deposit or check.
Yes. HSA and FSA funds can typically be used for qualified medical expenses for you, your spouse, and your dependents. The letter should be in the name of the person using Bia. Check your specific plan's rules for dependent coverage details.
Bia is not a tax advisor or medical provider. HSA/FSA eligibility is determined by your provider and your plan under IRS rules. This page is general information, not tax or medical advice.
